Blue Cadillac

My best friend from back home just experienced the sudden loss of her father recently. It has been rough times for all of us. The most interesting story I have to tell you is not how strong my friend has been throughout the challenges. I have been amazed at her strength to get out of bed each day and merely carry on. Nor how awesome of a dad she had and how he fought for our country and was left for dead and survived and has been treated awful by our government for years.
The story goes like this ...my 4 year old little boy overheard parts of a story and came up with his own story. My best friends dad had buried his father not long ago prior to his own death. He had told his twin daughters that was the ugliest casket he had ever seen. He didn't want to be buried in any such thing. If he ever died he wanted to be buried in a green casket. He told them it reminded him of a green Cadillac. Guess he thought he was Hank Sr. or something going to heaven in a green Cadillac. :0)
Meanwhile, I had told my parents this story as well as mentioning to my own dad he needed to visit the local doctor himself. Due to his recent habit of smoking "Icky Sticks" has returned and he has an awful cough that mysteriously just isn't going to go away on its own. WELP little ears were listening to ALL of this and low and behold he processed it for several days. We returned home to Texas and here is what a 4 year old's little brain spit out. Early in the day on a phone conversation with my dad I went to hang up ending the call with "Bye Dad I love ya" normally we just call him PaPa so there is no confusion... my kiddo heard this and I got the questions... Mommy is that your daddy?
yes sir he is?
well George was Aunt Cole's daddy too Right?
Yes sir!
Does that mean PaPa is going to die too??
no Cooper that is not what that means... well mommy you told him he needed to go see the doctor and people see the doctor because they are sick...
Yes Cooper but PaPa need to go get a breathing machine like Luke had and Aunt Cole's daddy was sick and your PaPa isn't sick.
He seemed to be ok with all that and went on playing and never said anything else. We continued our fun filled day. Evening came and one would think all this was over but nope there is more ticking in little mans head... and it goes like this. Everyone was in bed I went to tuck the little guys in bed. My oldest ask me if I would lay down with him for just a few minutes. Well sure we can say our prayers. He prayed for all the sick, Aunt Cole's daddy..Aunt Cole & Nat not to be sad and mommy , daddy..Luke,Rylee,Olivia, Hunter, Hailey...the normal list we have every night. Then all of a sudden he says
Mommy, we are never ever going to have a Cadillac!!
Really buddy?
no mommy they are junk... it takes like 20 screws just to hold dos motors in
"hummmm Cooper that is interesting" I say
You know what else mommy they go super slow.. like turtle slow
wow I didn't know that Cooper.. but you know Cadillacs are REAL nice Coop everybody wants a Cadillac
no mommy if we eber have one it would be Blue they are the only good ones.. the rest are junk..for real.
hummm but Cooper Cadillacs are super duper Nice ya know have you ever sit in a Cadillac?
No way hosay neber eber mommy... we are never having one of those never eber only a Blue one.
Ok Coop go to sleep. So my kiddo thinks everyone goes to heaven in a Cadillac. He wants them to go slow and the motors to break down getting to Heaven. The motors only have 20 screws holding it in ya know? Quite the concept if I do say so myself...He knows my dad's favorite color is Blue because my dad is quite the jokester. He is always teasing him about taking his Piggy Bank money and buying a big blue truck.

I think it is amazing what his little brain pieced together and sadden at the same time that he worried his little brain with such complex things at such a young age. I will say I kinda like the idea myself, I mean we all have our time we have to check out of this world why not take our last ride in a convertible Cadillac drinking a cold one with the wind blowing thru our hair. One last slide sideways right into Heaven's gates. Wouldn't it be cool to pass each other in Heaven driving Cadillacs??
